Deb's Day - Bad Hair Day
Bad Hair Day
Oh you do make me laugh…..yes, Lisa you are right. There is an upside to every situation and borrowing Lorna’s cowboy hat just might be the answer here. I was not at all pleased to see that several more handfuls of hair came out again today. It will all be gone in a few days. I’m not just talking hair on my head either! Never realised how much I actually liked my hair until now. Never again will I complain about it when it does return!
I went to Body Balance at Hailsham on Tuesday (love the new release Maree but not sure about the splits at the end!). I have regained almost all strength in my left arm and shoulder and could even do the plank. I loved it so much I went again tonight but IT WAS FULLY BOOKED! So I went into the gym for an hour which was also very pleasant if not quite as relaxing. Took me back to those days at Lords Gym in Perth where i used to sweat away over three sets of shoulder presses, etc...Hope I feel comfortable going there when I have a teatowel on my head – sure I’ll get some looks but will have to think of an appropriate scouser retort if the stares get too much….like ‘Wot you lookin’ at you scuz bucket? (how’s that Jane?).
Tomorrow I am going to Worthing for a day workshop run by BreastCancerCare. It is a ‘Healthy Living Day’ so am looking forward to it. Starts with a Tai Chai class which might be a good chilled out start to the day. I will be listening carefully to the part about how chocolate reindeers are a crucial part of a healthy recovery….
See you later, x

You Are All Mad!
I am very reluctant to add another entry because I am so enjoying the parallel conversations and subtext from all of you!!! Who are these mystery people commenting on the weather, one wonders?
Hey Janet, I have my very own companion set and I don’t use it to stoke the wood fire! Remember that photo of my four minders……that’s a REAL companion set! But we could all chip in and supply Lorna with one, although I don’t think Martin will be too happy….Anyway it was great to see all of you on Sunday too – even if some of you were smelly and sweaty!

I am having an average day due to several reasons really. The first being………. yesterday there were quite a few loose hairs in my comb but I thought I would wait till today to double-check. Yes, it’s definitely disappearing at a rapid rate…..I got it cut short yesterday. I hope the remaining ones hang on a little longer…..

So after a slightly shocked start I was looking forward to being picked up by Deb and Vicki who decided to take me to the movies at Hawkhust. I was really looking forward to a bit of escapism and the theatre was lovely. But contrary to Uri’s advice of ‘keep laughing’, the movie was the saddest movie I have seen in a long time – PS I Love You. Don’t go to see it unless you have several boxes of tissues! Great movie though but I had to come home and tune in to the Disney Channel for some light relief.
Nothing else to report except that I have had a few emails from friends who are a little concerned at the thought of me training to be a ‘scouser’. It would seem even an ‘aussie’ is preferable to a ‘scouser’! See you later.
Deb x

Successful Fundraiser!
Bannatyne's was buzzing yesterday with many full classes in the aerobic marathon and a fantastic auction. Thank you to all of you who came - and special thanks for Lorna who spent so much time organising it! There were some great auction lots and I tried to bid for a sporty mercedies for the weekend (me behind the wheel, cruising through the country Thelma and Louise style, scarf and last threads of hair streaming behind me......) but unfortunately the winner had to be points free on their licence..
Anyway the total is still being totalled but it will be well over £2,000 which, i think is amazing!!!
I feel tired today but am still amazed at how good I feel generally. Long may it last! I woke up to the news that here in the UK, today is the most miserable day of the year. Well, the weather is certainly obliging. But I am not falling for that. I have been reading Uri Gellar's book Mind Medicine and you just cannot be gloomy no matter what your circumstances. I was sleeping in on Saturday morning (Jono downstairs watching the Aussies succumb to a rare defeat in the cricket - bugger!) when he came bounding upstairs with the telephone. It's for you he said,it's Uri! Fancy that! Busy man that he is, he still takes the time to phone me, ask after my health and tells me to stay positive. He said to KEEP LAUGHING and told me an amazing story about a woman who literally laughed her tumour away! I said that was easy for me because I had JANE on my side and she's always worth a laugh or three! But I do believe he is right - our minds are magical and mysterious things that are more powerful than we can imagine. I've just told mine to make me a cuppa and the kettle is already whistling....I'm still working on that free flight down under...
I have set a Reindeer Cracking Date because the kids are getting very impatient (yes, the poor little tikes actually think they're going to get some!) So, I thought it could be after Chemo 3 as a celebration of getting half way there! And I am going to book the Ritz for the week after Chemo 6 as my HUGE CELEBRATION (those Aussies have gone quiet on their Ritz performance...I know it's school holidays and you've all gone away but you better have your rehearsals scheduled...and can some of you please add a comment? Jane's worried she's scared you all off!) Here's the reindeer so you have an idea of how much chocolate there will be! See you later, Deb x

Anyone For A Dip?
Cancel ALL Sunday plans! Forget the roast and don’t buy the newspapers…you will be too busy. The Breast Cancer Fundraiser is going to be AMAZING so get yourself down to Bannatyne’s. Especially be there at 5.30pm for the auction – you will not believe the auction lots….THE LATEST ONE…..

A luxury family swimming pool, (above ground) 12ft by 24ft, valued at over $1,500!

How amazing is that? Those of you who read this blog regularly will have seen the many humorous comments posted by Lisa. Well, we have Lisa’s wonderful husband to thank for the swimming pool (he must be in the running for husband of the year award, Jono is slowly losing his status….)

Also some fabulous lots to bid for from Barraclough and Stiles – a great pair of binoculars and a £50 voucher, Marks and Spencers, Boots and others….Wow! You must come and pick up something and at the same time be donating to the Lavender Trust – a part of BreastCancerCare dedicated to younger women with BC.

If you pick up the Hastings Observer today you will find an article on the fundraiser day which should attract some more people, and Lorna is on Arrow FM tomorrow morning talking about it (and me!) so tune in! And see you Sunday!

Today I feel surprisingly well. I did loads and went to a session at the hospital called Head Strong which was all about hair loss and ways to tie scarves etc. (Hello to my lovely cousin Michelle! Tell Alan I’m glad he thinks hair is overrated! We could swap some scalp care tips soon….!) I have traded in my ‘bag lady wrestling with a dishcloth look’ for a ‘gyspy fortune teller caught in a wind tunnel’ look (that may have just been a temporary aghast shock expression on my face caused by the lady telling me that I could attach a fake fringe under the scarf for a more ‘authentic’ look!

And tonight I did another Body Balance session which was very satisfying. I still have some restricted movement in my arm – just tightness through the armpit and side – but could do most of the yoga poses and twists. Tess joined me and really enjoyed it but unfortunately during the relaxation part, her trumpeting bottom sent us into unstoppable giggles…….

I am not sure whether my general good health is:
a) due to an amazingly nutrient rich diet and supplements,
b) the exercise and relaxation,
c) reading Uri Gellar’s great book and BELIEVING myself well,
d) laughing myself well at all YOUR comments and stories on the blog and email……
e) or just temporary good fortune!
Anyway I am going to make the most of it, that’s for sure…..
Have a great weekend and think about this….endless summer days and long evenings, a newly landscaped garden with a FABULOUS swimming pool, BBQs, friends, families and fun! Go on, you know you want it! And I could come over and show you the Aussie way to swim and enjoy your back yard! Love Deb x

Hey Lou! I just found your comment - I REALLY HOPE you get over here this year. WE WOULD LOVE TO SEE YOU! Have a great party! xxxxxxxx
